THE EMBU WEDDING
GROUNDS AND RESORT CENTRE.
This
proposal was divided into two phases over 6 acres of undulating landscape:
Phase
one was divided into three parts:
·
Wedding grounds
·
Restaurant and Guest House
·
The children’s play area
The
second phase of the project would include cottages, conference facilities and a
three – star hotel. The second development would follow on the success of the
first phase.
THE WEDDING
GROUNDS:
The
brief for the wedding grounds was to have a seating capacity of a thousand
persons and provide a different option from the existing wedding grounds in the
country. The podium dais was designed to meet deconstruction principles to allude
to the attempt to ‘break away’ from the norm. The white would be our way to connect
to the occasion – it is a wedding after all.
The
seating area was done in a half circular formation to maximize on viewing
angles and to minimize on the distance from the dais. The matrimonial walk
breaks the siting space into two – two shall become one –ending into one altar.
THE RESTAURANT
AND GUEST HOUSE:
The
guest house is an existing incomplete project on site. The finishing shall be
done to match the one on new structures.
The
restaurant explored the concept of visual continuity to great detail using
floor to ceiling openings to achieve it. All internal partitions were no higher
than 900mm.This was informed by the need to see what was happening in the
wedding grounds and to enable parents keep an eye on their children playing.
THE CHILDRENS’
PLAY AREA:
These
were divided into three groups of activities:
·
Individual play
·
Group play
·
Intellectual play
This
was to cater for either gender and to cater for the various personalities of
children. The activities are however grouped to challenge the children to step
out of their comfort zone while minimizing conflict. The
parking space was designed to carry 100 cars with minimum use of the available
space. this was achieved using 450 angle parking with a one way
direction loop. Here are some of the illustrations.
